TEMPLA

TEMPLA is a permanent workshop of Medieval Studies composed of specialists from universities, museums, and archives from different parts of Spain, Europe and, in particular, Catalonia. The members of the team share common interests as well as complementary areas of expertise. The impact of its research and its interactions with experts from other disciplines are reflected in its specific research projects and academic activities, which are disseminated in annually organized scientific meetings and resulting publications.

TEMPLA members actively seek to collaborate with different research groups and scientific institutions. They aim to facilitate exchanges among researchers and to stimulate scientific debates relating to visual programs and spatial organization from the Middle Ages. Particular attention is devoted to the liturgical influences and the use of architecture and to reflection on the social and academic status of research on medieval art and culture.

Gerardo Boto Varela
PhD in Art History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, 1998, is currently Professor of Art History at the University of Girona (where he teaches since 1995) and associate of the Instituto de Estudos Medievais, University Nova de Lisboa.

Cesar García de Castro
PhD in History from the University of Oviedo, 1993, is currently territorial Archaeologist in the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Principality of Asturias (since 2001). Previously he was a fellow FPI in the Department of History at the University of Oviedo (1989-1992), and Postdoctoral Research Fellow DAAD, Albert-Ludwig Univ. Freiburg i. B. (1994).

Esther Lozano Lopez
PhD in Art History from the University Rovira i Virgili- Tarragona in 2003, has held teaching and research assignments at the University of Girona (2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 ) at the University Autonoma of Barcelona (2010-2011) and the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona (2011-2012); and has been a teacher-tutor at the National University of Distance Education (from 2009 to the present).

Marta Serrano Coll
Art Historian PhD in 2006 at the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona, is currently a professor at the same university reading since 2010.

This workshop is part of the activities of the Max Planck research project "Convivencia: Iberian to Global Dynamics (500-1750)".
