Eman Shokry Hesham, PhD

Eman Shokry Hesham is an architect and a researcher in the History of Islamic Art and Architecture in Egypt. Her current studies focus on the opus sectile floor art of the Mamluk Period in Egypt (1250-1516 AD). Her project “Opus Sectile Art of the Mamluks” contributes to the theories of intercultural dialogue and knowledge transfer across the Mediterranean contextualizes the Mamluk architectural decorations.

Besides her current Postdoctoral fellowship at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, Eman is a visiting researcher at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo. In 2022 she was a Postdoctoral fellow at the KHI in Florenz after obtaining the Oleg Grabar Postdoctoral grant by the Historians of Islamic Art Association. Moreover, she had a Postdoc scholarship from the Preußischer Kulturbesitz to investigate the unpublished archive of the late art historian Michael Meinecke at the Museum für Islamische Kunst Berlin.
