Workshop

'Bilderfahrzeuge'. On the Migration of Images, Forms, and Ideas

Annual Workshop of the research project "Bilderfahrzeuge. Aby Warburg’s Legacy and the Future of Iconology"

This conference takes up the question of the migration of images, forms and ideas, accessing the metaphor "Bilderfahrzeuge", coined by the cultural theorist Aby Warburg (1866-1929). It is the first major opportunity for the international research group Bilderfahrzeuge. Aby Warburg's Legacy and the Future of Iconology to introduce itself to a wider public and invite broad academic dialogue. Carefully-selected external speakers will present alongside the group’s own members, to offer an insight into how the dynamic of individual research projects contributes to this larger question.

The international research group Bilderfahrzeuge. Aby Warburg's Legacy and the Future of Iconology is a cooperation of the Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte in Paris (Max Weber Stiftung), the Institut für Kunst- und Bildgeschichte at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the Kunstgeschichtliches Seminar (Warburg-Haus) at the Universität Hamburg, the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz - Max Planck Institut and the Warburg Institute, London, funded by the German ministry of higher education and science.
