Mitteilungen des Kunsthistorischen Institutes in Florenz

The Mitteilungen des Kunsthistorischen Institutes in Florenz, founded in 1908 as a publication forum of what was still at the time a fledgling institute, is now one of the oldest and most prestigious art-historical journals worldwide. Since 2013 the Mitteilungen is issued again three times each year in a new graphic design. The journal publishes original research dedicated to Italian art from Late Antiquity to the 20th century, including its global outreach. Preference is given to articles that have a wide focus and open new perspectives to the field, either by using innovative methods, tackling original questions, or by presenting unpublished material of high relevance. Thematic issues, which can also transcend the limits of Italian art history and address general aspects of art historical discourse, are published from time to time.

The Mitteilungen can be ordered either by subscription or in individual numbers from Centro Di, Florence. Members of the Verein zur Förderung des Kunsthistorischen Instituts in Florenz (Max-Planck-Institut) e. V. receive the journal free of charge. All published contributions can be accessed online on JSTOR (for subscribers only), most of the older issues are also available on ART-Dok.

Proposals for contributions – articles or shorter notices – in German, Italian, English, French, or Spanish can be sent at any time by e-mail (mitteilungen@khi.fi.it) or post to the editorial staff; in all cases the text of any contribution to the journal should be provided in Word-Document format. Suitable submissions undergo a double-blind peer reviewing process. Decisions on the publication of texts are taken by the editorial committee consisting of the Directors of the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and the editor of the journal.
