Both historical and current specialist literature from various disciplines is available for consultation by an international community of researchers. With its elaborate cataloguing and indexing system, the Library also makes a significant contribution towards assuring the quality of the research conducted at the institute.

As a research facility and laboratory, it plays a leading role in the international and transdisciplinary debate on the function of photo archives in 21st-century research and societies. Its daily tasks, such as photo campaigns, cataloguing and digitization, are inseparably linked with its scholarly activities. With its projects, conferences, workshops and publications, the Photothek makes an active contribution to the academic life of the Institute.

Nata nel 1966 a Roma. Laurea in storia dell'architettura presso il Politecnico di Milano (1992), dottorato in storia dell'arte presso la Freie Universität di Berlino (2003). Borse di studio dottorali del Politecnico di Milano a Berlino (marzo 1995–febbraio 1996) e della Gerda Henkel Stiftung a Roma (agosto 1999–luglio 2000). Assistente scientifica presso la Bibliotheca Hertziana, Istituto Max Planck per la Storia dell'Arte, Roma, Direzione Kieven (agosto 2000–gennaio 2005). Coordinatrice di ricerca presso l'Archivio del Moderno, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio (CH), Università della Svizzera italiana (febbraio 2005–15 ottobre 2006). Dal 16 ottobre 2006 direttrice della Fototeca presso il Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz.
