Transpacific Engagements: Visual Culture of Global Exchange (1781-1869)

International Conference

Co-organized by the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, California; the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence, Italy; and the Ayala Museum in Makati City, Philippines

This three-day conference addresses cultural and artistic exchange in the Pacific region from the late eighteenth to the early-to-mid-nineteenth centuries, examining the ways in which engagements between Asia, the Americas, and Europe transformed art styles and meanings through commerce, colonization, and conversion. Distinguished international scholars converge in Manila to address transpacific encounters and interregional exchanges in this landmark symposium.
