Il convegno intende mettere in luce attraverso una formula inedita il ruolo decisivo del Mediterraneo quale "spazio culturale" privilegiato nella formazione dell'arte cristiana delle origini, rilevando le interazioni dinamiche tra i grandi monasteri del deserto nell'Alto Egitto, le città capitali del Mondo Antico e l'Occidente.
