Both historical and current specialist literature from various disciplines is available for consultation by an international community of researchers. With its elaborate cataloguing and indexing system, the Library also makes a significant contribution towards assuring the quality of the research conducted at the institute.

As a research facility and laboratory, it plays a leading role in the international and transdisciplinary debate on the function of photo archives in 21st-century research and societies. Its daily tasks, such as photo campaigns, cataloguing and digitization, are inseparably linked with its scholarly activities. With its projects, conferences, workshops and publications, the Photothek makes an active contribution to the academic life of the Institute.

Prof. Dr. Karl Enenkel ist Professor für Neulateinische Literatur an der Universität Leiden und General Editor von Intersections. Yearbook for Early Modern Studies.

Petrarcas neostoisches Manifest De remediis utriusque fortune war eines der wichtigsten Bücher des Spätmittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit. Einen nicht geringen Anteil an dem Erfolg hatten die deutschen Übersetzungen des Werkes, die mit 261 Holzschnitten eines anonymen Augsburger Künstlers ("Petrarca-Meister") ausgestattet sind. Der Vortrag macht den Versuch, zu klären, auf welche Weise Text und Bild funktionierten und die Rezeption dieses einflussreichen Werkes steuerten. Insbesondere werden Kapitel miteinbezogen, die entweder im Text oder im Bild körperlichen Schmerz thematisieren.
