Michael Hirst: Michelangelo: Reflections of the Biographer

Prof. Michael Hirst will speak informally on his forthcoming biography of Michelangelo Buonarroti. Part I (The Life of Michelangelo Buonarroti up to 1534) is to be published by Yale University Press in 2009.
Michael Hirst is Professor of Italian Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art (London University) since 1983. Among many other honours, he is a member of the British Academy.
Besides his numerous articles in the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, Burlington Magazine, Apollo and other distinguished international journals, his most important books are: Sebastiano del Piombo, Oxford 1981; Michelangelo and His Drawings, New Haven and London 1988; The Biography of Michelangelo in two volumes (Vol. I, The Life of Michelangelo up to 1534, to be published by Yale University Press in 2009). He also wrote the introduction to the new Italian edition of Condivi's life of Michelangelo (Florence 1998).
