Neilabh Sinha, M.A.

Neilabh Sinha is a historian working in the Lise Meitner Group “Coded Objects” as a doctoral fellow. He holds a Research MA in Global History from Leiden University, and a BA (Honours) in History from the University of Delhi. Neilabh’s research at the KHI is conducted in the context of his PhD dissertation at Leiden University, “Civilized Men: Culture and Power at the Courts of Rudolf II and Jahangir, 1575-1625” funded through a “PhDs in the Humanities” grant of the Dutch Research Council (2018). He has held research and travel grants from the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (2024) and the NW Posthumus Research School (2021). His Research Master was supported by the Crayenborgh and LExS Scholarships of Leiden University (2015-2017). He also participated in the Cosmopolis BA programme at Leiden with an Encompass Scholarship of the University’s Institute for History (2014-15).

Neilabh’s dissertation compares two geographically distant courts—Mughal and Habsburg—to explore the role of (material) culture in achieving political objectives in the premodern period and to suggest possibilities for viewing Eurasia as a continuous cultural-political space.
