Martin Schwarz, M.A.
Martin Schwarz received his MA from the University of Vienna. He is now completing his PhD in medieval art history at the University of Chicago. For the current year (2019/2020) he is a doctoral assistant to Prof. Jas Elsner at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz. In collaboration with Prof. Elsner, he has written on the critical reception of Alois Riegl in the work of Guido Kaschnitz-Weinberg and the Wiener Schule ("The Genesis of Struktur," Art History 39, 2016). 2015/16 he was a fellow at the Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte (DFK) in Paris. Prior, he interned at the Getty Museum's manuscripts department and curated the exhibition Heaven, Hell and Dying Well: Images of Death in the Middle Ages (available on Google's Art and Culture platform).
