Frida Sandström holds a PhD degree in Modern Culture from the University of Copenhagen, where she completed her PhD thesis Dropout Subjects. Jill Johnston’s and Carla Lonzi’s Disintegration and Deculturalization of Art Criticism as Social Critique in 1969 in 2025. She was a visiting researcher at CRMEP (Center for Research in Modern Philosophy), Kingston University, London (2021) and a Paris-Rome Fellow at Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History and at DFK Paris – German Centre for Art History in 2023-2024. Sandström’s research has been published in Nordic Journal of Aesthetics, Kultur & Klasse, Afterall, and Philosophy of Photography, and in anthologies published by Brill and De Gruyter. She frequently publishes art criticism and essays in journals such as Art Monthly, Frieze, Metropolis M, Camera Austria, and Critic d’Art. She has been a contributing editor of the Swedish art journal Paletten since 2015.
