Orazio Lovino completed a Joint PhD in Art History in 2024 at the Universities of Florence, Pisa, Siena, and the University of Amsterdam. His thesis, which was awarded the 2025 Doctoral Dissertation Prize of the Società Napoletana di Storia Patria and funded by the European Union–Next Generation EU (CUP B53D23033990006), was published in 2025 as La pala d’altare dipinta nel Regno di Napoli. 1443–1530 (Paparo Editore).
From 2024 to 2025, he held a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Università della Campania within the PRIN SHARING project, in collaboration with the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte and CNR-ISPC, focusing on 15th–16th century Neapolitan paintings. Since 2024, he has been a teaching assistant (cultore della materia) in Early Modern Art History at the same university. In 2025, he obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor in Art History (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale, II fascia).
He has contributed to the exhibition catalogues Raffaello e la Domus Aurea (Rome, Domus Aurea, 2022), Otro Renacimiento: artistas españoles en Nápoles a comienzos del Cinquecento (Museo del Prado / Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, 2022–2023) and Perugino. “Il meglio maestro d’Italia” (Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria, 2023).
His research interests focus on Italian painting from the Late Middle Ages to the Renaissance, with particular attention to Southern Italy, altarpieces, artistic techniques, sacred topography, and digital reconstruction.
