Ralph Lieberman: Planetary Orbits: The Architecture of Heaven on Earth

There are interesting parallels between changes in ideas about planetary orbits from the 16th to 17th century and changes in church plans in the same period; particularly with regard to notions of uniformity and regularity. Although a causal relationship is difficult to prove, the often striking similarity nonetheless rewards careful consideration.
