Dr. Rafael Ugarte Chacón
Research Coordinator and Public Relations Manager

Rafael Ugarte Chacón studied comparative literature and theatre studies at Freie Universität Berlin and Università degli Studi Roma Tre in Rome. In his doctoral dissertation at Freie Universität Berlin, he worked on theatre performances directed at Deaf and hearing audiences alike. The thesis was published under the title Theater und Taubheit. Ästhetiken des Zugangs in der Inszenierungskunst (Bielefeld: transcript 2015). Since 2015, he has been working in higher education and research management: first in various academic and professional development programs for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at Freie Universität Berlin, Leibniz University Hannover, and Bielefeld University, later in the area of structural university development at HIS-Institut für Hochschulentwicklung in Hannover. Since 2021, he is research coordinator and public relations manager at Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut.
