Gregor Meinecke, M.A.

Gregor Meinecke is a PhD student at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and the University of Hamburg, working under the supervision of Professors Francesco Caglioti and Frank Fehrenbach. His doctoral research examines script bearers in the sacred art of the central and northern Italian Renaissance. Previously, he completed his M.A. in Art History at the University of Hamburg in 2022, focusing on the representation of books in Quattrocento paintings. After graduation, he was awarded a one-year junior fellowship as a predoctoral student at the Hamburg Research Center for Advanced Study “Imaginaria of Force”. During his M.A. studies in 2021, he gained valuable experience as a research assistant in the department of Professor Gerhard Wolf at the Kunsthistorisches Institut. His research interests include Renaissance art, visual representations of script and its materiality, and the viewer’s reception of painted writing.
