Sabrina Jocher, M.A.

Freelancer, Photothek

Sabrina Jocher studied Art History at the University of Salzburg. In 2024 she obtained her master’s degree with a thesis on the significance of the colour green in the book of hours of Mary of Burgundy (Cod. Vid. 1857), highlighting the importance of colour use to convey religious, personal and political meaning amid the highly strenuous political landscape of 15th century Burgundy and France.

During her studies she worked several years at the museum DomQuartier in Salzburg as a registrar for the collection of the state rooms and as a research assistant at the University of Salzburg. In 2025 she joined the team of the Institute for Medieval and Early Modern Material Culture (IMAREAL) where she works on optimizing the database REALonline. After an internship at the Photothek in early 2025, she rejoins the KHI in 2026 as a freelancer for the Photothek.

Her current research is focused on medieval and early modern depictions of bathing and their intersection with the medical and cultural context of the time as well as the materiality of the culture of bathing. She is also exploring the visual tradition of distillation in the context of manuals, recipes and scientific writing.
