Nora Guggenbühler, M.A.

Nora Guggenbühler is an art historian specializing in the art and material culture of the early modern Iberian world. Her research combines approaches from transregional art history and anthropology to investigate the production, circulation, and use of Catholic devotional images and objects within networks connecting Southern Italy, Spain, and Central and South America. She is completing a PhD in Art History at the University of Zurich. Her dissertation, Multiplying Mary: Miraculous Images and Their Circulation Across the Iberian World, examines the dissemination of copies of venerated images of the Virgin Mary throughout the Spanish Empire during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Her doctoral research has been supported by a Doc.CH Fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and a fellowship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and held a research residency at the Istituto Svizzero in Palermo.
