Giacomo Guazzini, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Giacomo Guazzini earned his MA from the University of Florence (2011) and his PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (2017) with the dissertation Giotto e la Basilica di Sant'Antonio a Padova. His research led to the discovery of a previously unknown frescoed chapel by Giotto preserved inside the Basilica of Padua (Un nuovo Giotto al Santo di Padova: la cappella della Madonna Mora, in: Nuovi Studi, 2015). He participated in the exhibition Piero della Francesca in America, held at the Frick Collection of New York (2013) and co-curated the exhibition Due pittori tardogotici per Pistoia: Mariotto di Nardo e Rossello di Jacopo Franchi, promoted by the Civic Museum of Pistoia (2015). His publications deal with Giotto's activity in Padua and 13th-15th-century art in Pistoia and Sansepolcro. Since May 2018 he has been postdoctoral fellow at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (directorship Alessandro Nova), with the project Mira marmora depicta: the origin, development and significance of fictive marble decoration from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
