Charles Hope: Vasari and the Tuscan artists of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries

Vortrag organisiert vom Verein zur Förderung des Kunsthistorischen Instituts in Florenz (Max-Planck-Institut) e.V., in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, München

Vasari is usually regarded as the sole author of the "Lives", but it is becoming increasingly clear that his book was a collaborative project in which his personal role was relatively limited. In the lecture Charles Hope will discuss how the biographies of the early Renaissance artists of Tuscany were compiled and will consider their value as sources of historical information.

Prof. Dr. Charles Hope

Charles Hope has worked at the Warburg Institute since 1976, and has been Director since 2002. His research has been on Titian and on other aspects of Italian renaissance art. In recent years he has been working mainly on Vasari's "Lives".
