Conversation with artist and filmmaker Deimantas Narkevičius

Organized in collaboration with the Department Gerhard Wolf, this event will comprise a screening of three films followed by a conversation with the Lithuanian artist and filmmaker Deimantas Narkevičius, in Palazzo Grifoni, on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 11 am. 

The event will bring together some of Narkevičius’s major filmic works that have brought him international recognition, such as “Once in the XX Century”, 2004; “The Head”, 2007, as well as one of his recent works “Stains and Scratches”, 2017.

The event will be held in two parts: 

- Film screening (total length c. 30 minutes) in the presence of the artist (Palazzo Grifoni)

- Conversation with the artist, moderated by Meta Valiusaityte (Palazzo Grifoni + zoom)

As the number of participants for the screening at Palazzo Grifoni is limited to 20 persons, we kindly ask you to register as soon as possible, as the places will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Those choosing to participate online will be able to attend the conversation and discussion only.

Deimantas Narkevičius (b. 1964 in Utena, Lithuania) is probably best known for his films on memory and utopia. Recorded on specific media, they explore the history of the not-so-distant past, which has become his primary material and the basis for his methodology. Originally trained as a sculptor, Narkevičius has been working on storytelling using film and video. Narkevičius’s works are included in the following permanent collections, to name just a few: Musée national d’art moderne (Paris), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid), Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, MACBA (Barcelona), Lithuanian Art Museum (Vilnius), Tate Modern (London), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Humlebæk), Oslo National Museum for contemporary Arts (Oslo), Muzej Suvremene Umjetnosti (Zagreb), Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie (Warsaw), etc.
