Dr. Lorenzo Vigotti

Postdoktorand

Lorenzo Vigotti received a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2019) with a dissertation on the origin of the Renaissance palace (1378-1432) and was trained as an architect at the University of Florence. He has been the recipient of fellowships and grants from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Society of Architectural Historians, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the European Institute at Columbia University, and the Eugene Grant Jewish History Program.
Lorenzo taught seminars on art, architecture, and urbanism at Columbia, NYU, Pratt Institute Graduate Architectural program, University of Utah School of Architecture, Union College, and collaborated on digital humanities projects at the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe at the Uffizi Gallery and at Avery Library at Columbia University.
Since 2016, he joined Prof. Mancuso's Program on Jewish History and Culture in Early Modern Europe at the Medici Archive Project, he is in charge of the study and architectural reconstruction of the now lost Florentine Ghetto during the Medici rule. At MAP, he taught seminars on paleography focusing on architectural drawings and tax records in Florentine archives.
As a trained architect, Lorenzo worked in Florence at an architectural firm, focusing on structural problems and preservation issues in medieval and Renaissance architecture. He is currently coordinating a project sponsored by the University of Florence and Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran on medieval domes in Iran and Italy and the history and practices of their restoration. The latter is the focus of his postdoctoral research at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz in the department Alessandro Nova.
