Unweaving Denial

I am currently conducting a three-part research project. 1) I am investigating the topic of denialism. I am particularly interested in how distraction functions as a tool for stabilizing an ideology and as a means of adaptation to systems through mechanization and standardization. Denialism doesn’t only have moral and legal implications but also comes with a process of bureaucratization that includes specific vocabulary, jargon, and paperwork that functions to further obscure accountability. 2) I want to examine the practice of a solo performer, both in relation to installation art and to the institution of art itself. My specific interest is in the decomposition and destruction of the soloist, how to stage her struggle with and against herself as a critical reflection on complicity and resistance. 3) Formally, I will experiment with text as costume and text as prop. To this end, I will work with LED strips as a base material for a woven costume and large-format object. This newly constructed material can effect a transformation of the soloist into one part of moving-image and text installation. I will also conceive motorized objects to forge a space of interaction between the human and the non-human.
