Michael Fried: An Almost Unknown Masterpiece: Cecco del Caravaggio's 'Resurrection' (1619-20)
Abendvortrag / Conferenza serale
Cecco's "Resurrection" at the Art Institute of Chicago has gone almost undiscussed by art historians. In this lecture Michael Fried tries to do justice to its astonishing intensity and originality by interpreting it in the light of Caravaggio's Predecessor achievement (and also by relating it to the work of other Caravaggisti).
Michael Fried is J. R. Herbert Boone Professor of Humanities at the Johns Hopkins University. His most recent books are MENZEL'S REALISM: ART AND EMBODIMENT IN NINETEENTH-CENTURY BERLIN (2002) and WHY PHOTOGRAPHY MATTERS AS ART AS NEVER BEFORE (2008), and he has just completed a book entitled THE MOMENT OF CARAVAGGIO (based on the Andrew W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts, delivered at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 2002).
