Dr. Alessandra Malquori

Alessandra Malquori has been Professor of Iconography and Iconology (temporary assignment) at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Advanced Studies in Fine Arts - Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Storico-artistici) from 2010 until present. She is currently Chercheur associé at CIHAM - UMR 5648, Lyon; her main field of research is Visual Culture and Communication in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

She obtained her PhD at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. She was a Frances A. Yates Fellow at the Warburg Institute, London, and a F. De Dombrowski Fellow at Villa I Tatti – Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence. She received research assignments from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, Florence, and from the Università degli Studi di Pavia. She is author of two monographies: "'Tempo d'aversità'. Gli affreschi dell'altana di Palazzo Rucellai" (Firenze 1993), and "Il giardino dell’anima. Ascesi e propaganda nelle Tebaidi fiorentine del Quattrocento" (Gli Uffizi. Studi e ricerche, 23 - Firenze 2012). She is the author and editor of the volume: "Atlante delle Tebaidi e dei temi figurativi", with M. De Giorgi e L. Fenelli (Firenze 2013).

Currently she is working at CIHAM on a knowledge base project (The "Atlas of the 'Thebaid' on-line project") that provides an access to the figurative themes inspired by the Vitae Patrum. Aim of the project is to keep and link together textual traditions and figurative representations; the Atlas will provide a virtual map of relations between painted, written and oral productions, paying attention to every different cultural background. As of 2016 she is the Scientific Director of the Project "Paolo Uccello nel Chiostro superiore di San Miniato al Monte a Firenze", in collaboration with CNR-ICVBC, Faberestauro, Mecrestauro and the partnership of Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz.
