Dr. Judith Elisabeth Weiss

Judith Elisabeth Weiss is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the interdisciplinary programme 4A Laboratory: Art Histories, Archaeologies, Anthropologies, Aesthetics. She studied Cultural Anthropology, Art History, and Comparative Literature in Mainz and Tübingen and received her PhD from the University of Heidelberg with an interdisciplinary thesis on art in a global context. She has carried out civil project work in Israel and India. From 1999 to 2011, she has worked in several museums both in the field of cultural management and as a curator for modern and contemporary art. From 2011 to 2020, she was a post-doctoral researcher at the Leibniz Centre for Literary and Cultural Research in Berlin. Most recently, she led a research project on pictorial models of nature with a special focus on plant images. Her current research focuses on the cultural significance of plants. Judith Elisabeth Weiss has held teaching positions at the Universities of Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, as well as the Berlin University of the Arts. She is guest editor of Kunstforum International and author of numerous essays on contemporary art. She is a member of the Association of German Art Historians, the Sociology of the Arts Working Group, and the Literary and Cultural Plant Studies Network.
